Rudy Salazar served in the US
Navy from 1971-1975 aboard
the USS Constant MSO 427, the
USS Piedmont AD 17, and the
USS Kitty Hawk CV 63.

Angelo DeLeon
Angelo De Leon is a
descendant of three generations
of immigrants from the
Philippines. Angelo joined
the US Army after high school
graduation, and was assigned
to the 1-504th 82nd airborne
division. In 2007 he was
Spec. Angelo De Leon, US Army,
with one of many Iraqi children
orphaned by casualties of the
war. deployed to Baghdad. Angelo
completed his tour of duty and
came home safely in April of
2008. To Angelo and his many
comrades, thank you for your
ultimate sacrifice to preserve
our freedom! We honor you
this Veterans' Day!

Sgt. MichaelTorres
Specialist StevenTorres
This photo of my two
sons, Sgt. Michael A. Torres,
age 23, USMC and Specialist
Steven M. Torres, US Army,
age 21, was taken in March.
It was the first time they had
seen each other in two years.
Steven was in Afghanistan
from December 2006 to
March 2008, and Michael
was in Iraq from August
2006 to March 2007. Michael
has re-enlisted for four more
years. Steven, who enlisted
for six years, has three more
years to go and is considering
enlisting again. I am so proud
of my boys!

Sgt. TommyHernandez
US Army Memorial
This Gardenland native
served in Vietnam and was
awarded the Silver Star, two
Bronze Stars and the Purple
Heart for wounds incurred
in combat. More than 100
people attended his memorial
service at the Natomas Rose
Garden in June, 2008.

Gunnery Sgt. Duggins
Gunnery Sgt. Duggins, USMC,
is shown guiding a helicopter
landing in Iraq. He has since
returned to the US.

and is currently in Iraq. E5
Tammy Wood (right) has served
in the Army for nine years. She
has returned to Sacramento from
service in Kuwait and is stationed
in Sacramento at BT Collins
Army Reserve Center.

The Martinez family
The Martinez family moved to Gardenland in 1928
and raised 11 boys and 5
girls. Ten of their sons served
in the military, all of them
enlisting just before their 18th
birthdays.
